Finding Inner Peace

Are you hiding your real self from the world and the people around you? Are you trying to be someone you aren’t because you fear that your authentic self won’t be accepted by the world? I think we all do this to an extent and I have done it almost all of my life. The motivation I have had to do most everything in my life was derived from the desire to be accepted by people. I have always been chasing a dream. I have always been working to accomplish something. I have always been determined to succeed. Because of all that I have been able to accomplish a few things in my life. However the one thing I have never been able to accomplish until recently is inner peace.

I think we are all after inner peace but we look for it in all the wrong places. We think that if we just get this particular job, make a certain amount of money, win a certain contest, get good grades, or find the person we want to spend the rest of our life with we will finally be able to have inner peace or happiness. What I discovered is all those things never bring long term inner peace or happiness. They may bring it for short periods of time, but never work in the long run. I am not saying that we shouldn’t strive or want those things, because I would like to have them all but what I am saying is that they will never truly bring long term inner peace or happiness.

What I have found to actually bring long term inner peace and happiness is having the revelation that who I am at my most authentic self is valuable, worthy, and good enough. That I don’t have to hide behind the mask of success, money, sports, a certain title, confidence, etc in order to be a person of value. I think once we all realize that who we truly are is good enough, is worthy, and valuable, then inner peace begins to take over because we now have freedom. We have the freedom to be ourselves and show the world who we really are.

One of my favorite bible verses is John 8:32 which says, “Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” I don’t know what truth is to you. I don’t even know if you believe in God, Jesus, or a higher power. But what I do know is that when you know the truth about anything it sets you free. When I began to stop ignoring the truth that I was 25 years old with no one I could say was my best friend and no long term relationships since high school it set me free to then begin becoming better at building strong friendships and relationships. When I was 21 years old failing every interview for every job I applied to, I came to understand the truth that I sucked at making a good first impression and I was not confident with people. This then set me free to learn the art of making a good first impression.

So who are you? Are you wearing a mask? Or are you like I have been for a lot of my life, wearing many masks? Getting to the truth of who you really are at your very authentic self and having a revelation that you are your authentic self for a reason and purpose therefore giving you value and worth as a person will set you free to be that person. That freedom will finally bring you the inner peace you have been looking for your whole life.

With Love,
