A Simple Word Of Belief

I think so many times we get so caught up in our own world of what we have going on that we don’t stop to take the time to encourage individuals. I learned that even as the “Professional Encourager and Uplifter” I need to do this more. I post a lot of video and that gives me great opportunities to pour into peoples lives individually but I realized that there are so many people around us that could use an “I believe in you” or “you can do it.” I went to a boys soccer practice recently that had mostly juniors and seniors in high school. I got the chance to train with them and get to know them as players. After the practice session I grabbed one of them to get to know him on a personal level. He happened to be one of the better players if not the best player in the group in my opinion. I asked him what he was doing after high school and if he was going to play in college. Initially he said no he wasn’t which shocked me. He was a really good player and good enough to play at a good level in college. I asked him why and he said “I am not sure I want to make the commitment.” I wasn’t convinced so I told him I thought he was a really good player and could definitely play at a really good level in college. This opened a 30 minute conversation where he told me a lot about the adversity he had gone through these last few years. What I found was that it wasn’t that he was afraid of the commitment, it was that he didn’t believe in himself. A few college coaches told him no to a scholarship and it didn’t seem that anyone had been there to tell him he could do it. The adversity he hit was rough. His brother died a year prior and he had to go through two hip surgeries that really set him back. What I found was that I was the only person that had told him he was good enough, that he was capable, and that he could do it.

It makes me think about all the people that I pass on a regular basis and don’t say anything to because I am too concerned with what I have going on. Instilling your belief in someone is extremely powerful and all I had to do to help this young kid was to not be so concerned with what I had going on, and to slow down to invest my life into him. All he needed was for someone to tell him he could do it. All he needed was for someone to interrupt the negativity that had been happening in his life and speak truth into him. Thats it. This kid could go on to achieve amazing things and help a lot of people because someone took the time to slow down and say wait a minute man YOU HAVE GREATNESS IN YOU! You can do it! You are capable! You are good enough! Keep pressing forward. WOW.

Lets make it a point moving forward to slow our life down enough to sow seeds of encouragement into people. Lets slow down our life enough to invest belief into people. Lets slow down our life enough to make sure that people around us know they have greatness within them. Who knows that person could be the next Will Smith, the next Oprah, the next Tim Tebow, and your words of encouragement could have helped take them to that next level. Lets not forget the power of words. We have no idea how just taking the time to notice someone can make their day and give them the belief that they can do it. That they can achieve that dream.
