We all have things in our past that are keeping us or slowing us down from creating what we want right now and in our future. John Maxwell says that the key to life is starting. I agree with that, however I believe even more so that the key to life is moving forward every single second, minute, hour, and day of your life. Most of us are stuck on past failures, past mistakes, past circumstances or tragedies and it is holding us back from truly creating the life we desire to create. We determine what we can accomplish now based on our past results. Imagine every baseball player never moved on from the past!! None of them would ever hit the ball! The key to life is moving forward every second, minute, hour, and day of your life.
One of my good friends got into real estate investing in his early 20’s. Excited and fired up to start a business and go for it! On his first deal he lost 100k. He made a big mistake. Failed big time! To make it worse it was someone else’s money! He lost more money in a second as a 22 year old then the average person makes in a year. He admitted that it was hard to move forward from that failure. I mean can you imagine? Im not sure how I would have taken that. However, he decided to move forward, he decided to learn from that failure, pick himself up and move forward. He didn’t let that failure defeat him. Six years later he made over 1 million dollars. Whats the key? He moved forward. The key to life is moving forward every second, minute, hour, and day of your life.
Its not just moving forward from big mistakes, its moving forward from small mistakes that can slow us down. As a sales person, business person, athlete, or entrepreneur you have to do this all the time. If you are a basketball player, its not dwelling on the shot you just missed and deciding to move forward right now. As a salesperson its not dwelling on the sale you just messed up, its moving forward to the next call. Most of the time we let small mistakes slow us down. I have seen it a ton in my life, and in coaching soccer players. There is a distinct difference between a player who is able to move forward in a millisecond versus a player who is constantly walking around with the weight of their last missed shot or pass. You could have two players with the same technical and physical ability but the one who is able to move forward the quickest will win every time. The key to life is moving forward every second, minute, hour, and day of your life.
We all have things we need to move on from whether big or small. Dwelling on these things brings no value to your life. It only keeps you stationary, frustrated, and depressed. You need to give yourself the grace god has given you. You are going to make mistakes, mess up, just accept it. I am probably one of the biggest failures I know. When I look back at anything I have succeeded at it was because of my ability to move forward. When I look back at anything I could not succeed at it was because I dwelt way too much on my past. You can do it my friend, just move forward every second, minute, hour, and day of your life!
