We have grown up being told what to do. Being influenced too greatly by people instead of our instincts. The world is going to tell you how to live your life but in the end you are the only one that gets to live your life. You have to live with yourself and your decisions. If you don’t chase your dream. If you don’t follow your heart, YOU have to live with it. Most people let the world, the people around them tell them what to do, not understanding that the world doesn’t get to live their life, only they get to live their life. Most people let the opinions of others control every decision they make. One of the best lines in the movie “Rudy” is when Rudy is talking to the priest and he says “my whole life people have told me what I could do and I couldn’t do and I always listened to them, believed in what they said… I don’t want to do that anymore.” We all need to understand like Rudy did in that moment that, I am the only one that has to live my life and I get to choose to either listen to the world around me or follow my dreams.
You are the person that has to live with the feeling of regret. The world that is telling you what to do doesn’t have to live with your regret, YOU DO! Simple as that. You have to live with the decisions you make. The world told me not to drop out of college, the smart and logical thing would have been to stay. I only had 3 semesters left, I was an honors student with a 3.9 GPA. But my heart said its time to move on. If I had stayed and listened to the world and all the “logic” around me I would have had to live with the feeling of regret knowing I should have done what my heart was telling me to do. When I quit my job many people said you are crazy, illogical, and it doesn’t make sense. You should have waited until you had a more steady income coming in through your side business. I quit my job when I was performing the best I had ever performed, making the most money I had every made (still wasn’t that much, I mean who am I comparing myself to), I was about to be promoted and get a raise! The logical thing would have been to stay, take my increase in pay, seek that promotion, keep making the “good” money I was making for my age. But if I did what everyone told me to do, I would have to live with that decision and regret, not them. I would have had to live with myself knowing I did opposite to what my heart was telling me.
Remember when you take the worlds advice that you are the one that has to live with the advice they are giving you, not them. You have everything to lose or gain, not them. They are just giving you words, you have to live with the consequences of your actions not them. If you listen to what the world says you will always end up doing whats logical and “smart” because the majority of the world doesn’t understand chasing a dream. All they understand is playing it safe and doing whats comfortable. You have to live with the consequences of never chasing your dream. You have to live with the consequences of what the world tells you to do. Remember that.
