Assurance Is Never Coming

Many of us, including myself, are waiting for assurance to step out of our comfort zone and chase our dreams. A friend of mine said something very powerful recently “If we always wait for assurance to step out we will never step.” That is completely true. If we are constantly waiting for assurance then that means we lack the faith to make it happen. We will never be ready and we will never be fully assured that what we are choosing to do is going to work out. We can never devise a perfect plan so that we get to the end result extremely fast with no resistance. Thats just not a possibility. Most people are trying to come up with this perfect business plan, or perfect plan to get wherever they are going so they spend days, weeks, months, and years coming up with this perfect plan, when in reality they cannot plan for all the detours that are going to happen along the journey. You WILL hit adversity, challenges, tragedy along the way, and you cannot plan for it so you might as well step out right now. Most people that try to devise this perfect plan to get from where they are to where they want to be never get started anyways.

If you study people of great achievement one thing you’ll find is their willingness to step out on faith having no idea if its going to work out without this perfect plan, and definitely without assurance. Life isn’t about where you are going, its about who you are becoming on your journey to where you are going. Trying to avoid adversity and challenges that are inevitable is a waste of time. You will hit them and you need that adversity in order to become the person you need to become in order to get where you want to go. What amazes me is we operate in faith all day long with our everyday lives but when it comes to stepping out into the unknown where we know our dreams are we need “assurance.” We leave our home everyday having faith that that person isn’t going to run the red light as we are crossing the intersection. We go to public places having faith that someone isn’t going to come up and rob us. We have faith that our place of employment isn’t going to just choose to let us go today! None of those things are 100% going to happen. We cannot be fully assured with any of those things but yet we have faith in them anyways. Why don’t we step out into the unknown, with faith, and chase after the life we want then?

The biggest reason we wont do it is because we fear standing out. We fear not fitting in. This is what held me hostage for so long. I was afraid to stand out, I was completely comfortable where I was at, yet that comfort was driving me nuts because I knew I could be offering the world so much more. I bet many of you are feeling the same way. There is this person on the inside of you that you have yet to let out to the world because you are afraid of what people will think. You are afraid of failing. You would do it immediately if you knew there would be no resistance, and it would just be a smooth ride all the way to your destination. You are missing the point. The lack of assurance is there because it forces you to operate in faith. Operating in faith is necessary because thats where you develop as a human being. Its when you operate in faith that the person that is hiding on the inside comes out. You begin to discover more about you that you didn’t know and that is truly what life is all about. Stop waiting for assurance because its NEVER coming.
