I am obsessed with moving forward. So obsessed I really believe it is the key to living. The Bible says, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation.” Simply put, this is God saying move forward from your past. Moving forward includes what you did two minutes ago, last week and last year not just the crazy stuff you went through when you were a kid, or all the partying and drugs you did in college. This means just move on from anything and everything in your past. Move forward, go and do what I’ve called you to do. Go and do the gifts I gave you is what God is saying. When you make a mistake, recognize it but move forward. When you come up with an idea for anything, move forward with it right away. We need to quit playing defense with our life and start playing offense. Playing defense is trying to defend who you are, playing offense is being who we are and growing. Playing defense is feeling guilty about your past, playing offense is creating the future you want.
Moving forward has become my mantra, I believe in it so deeply because it changed my life. When I began moving forward and playing offense my perspective on life completely changed. My perspective on my past changed, my perspective on my future changed, my perspective on my relationships changed because I was choosing to look at everything through the windshield and not the rear view mirror. I became focused on creating the future that I wanted and doing every day things that created that future. This took me out of depression, drinking alcohol regularly, focusing too much on girls, etc. The good word says “For I know the plans I have for you says the lord. Plans to prosper you, to give you a hope and a future.” EVERYTHING in that verse has to do with moving forward. When we live on the defense and in the past we dwell on what could have been, instead of what can be. Hope brings happiness and excitement to your life. When you live everyday with a hope for a better future, you are playing offense and you are able to overcome the adversity that you will inevitably face.
I really believe, that moving forward is the key to living a great life. You get to determine what a great life is for you but I guarantee that great life will come down to you moving forward everyday. In my current job, it is THE key to success. The key to success in sales is moving forward. Its taking as much action with an open mind to learn. The best thing to do when you get off a phone call that went terribly bad, where I completely sucked, is to pick up the phone and dial again. You can’t go back and change that phone call, but you can change that next one! As an athlete, the key to success is moving forward. It’s not dwelling on how good you once were, or the last play you messed up. Its how can I hit this next shot, or how can I complete the next pass. My hope an prayer is for everyone who is reading this to start moving forward and playing offense everyday. Stop dwelling on your past, and start creating the future you want.
