Social Media Christian

I don’t want to be a social media christian. I don’t want to be a social media success. I don’t want to talk the talk. I want to walk the walk. I don’t just want to know theory, I want to live it. I don’t just want to post success quotes on social media, I want to live successfully. I don’t have any interest any more in trying to impress people. I don’t have any interest in not actually being the person I am portraying myself to be. It is so much easier saying than doing, that is fact. It is so much easier to say God loves me, than it is to actually walk in his love and do what we are commanded to do. If we were really honest with ourselves most of us are more concerned with how others perceive us than we are with doing what we are commanded to do. It is much easier to talk about how to succeed, than it is to actually go out and do it. For every day I live, I learn more and more that I am way more interested in doing the gritty work of a Christian than I am in trying to impress anyone, or care what others think. The truth is, even when I think I don’t care at all about what people think, I catch myself trying to impress instead of just flat out doing the work.

I don’t just want to talk about how I am supposed to be generous, I want to actually challenge myself to live generously. I want to walk the walk, this is where true living is. In today’s world, we all find ourselves at times if not all the time trying to portray the person that we want or know we should be instead of being that person. That goes for believers and non-believers. We post 100 pictures on facebook of us in Africa for a week “serving” god, so we can say “HEY LOOK AT ME, I AM BEING A CHRISTIAN.” But when we are back home in our “normal” life, we don’t help that person we know because we are stingy. We go to church on Sunday so we can say “HEY LOOK AT ME, I AM BEING A CHRISTIAN.” But Monday through Saturday, we aren’t being the light to the broken world around us. I am talking about actually doing what is commanded of us. Truly living generously. Giving our life to our God given purpose. We as a Christian community have become way more interested in looking like a “Christian” then actually being a Christian. We as a people have become way more interested in the idea of success then actually living successfully. We as a people have become way more interested in looking like a “good” person than actually do whats right.

We need to stop talking about what it means to be a Christian and start actually being a Christian. I have become so obsessed with doing in my life. Doing and moving forward has become an obsession of mine because truly experiencing the life God created me to live comes in the process of doing! Acting and trying to impress will always leave us empty, but doing and being we always fill us up and bring fulfillment. In Romans 12 God says that we all have different gifts and that whatever your gift is do it. He says “if your gift is serving, then serve. If it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.” He doesn’t say talk about how gifted you are, he doesn’t say come up with this perfect plan before you start, he simply says DO IT. That’s it.

I am so sick and tired of talking and I am so sick and tired of seeing so many people selling out to caring what other people think versus just flat out doing what we are supposed to do with our life. We have the spirit of God inside us, we should be out doing because we were created to DO great things and BE someone incredible. I think the key to all this is to finally believe that God created us great (we already are) and there is an incredible person already inside us that we just need to finally be. We don’t need to make people think we are, we just need to freaking do the gritty work and be the light to the world. I think if we just for once in our life decided to believe God, and actually DO we could see a transformation in our families, then our communities, then our state, country, and world. We were created to be powerful, strong, generous, loving, and the light to the world everyday, everywhere we are, not just when we will have the opportunity to post it for people to see. Please join me on the journey of DOING what we were created to do and BEING who we were created to be!
